I dwell in possibility

Bright Shining as the Sun–Kindle Vella Author Notes

Episode 1: Is it presumptuous for me to speak for Jake in writing this tale? Possibly. But his story has been rattling around in my heart for ages. I lost faith when my mother died at the age of 59. A generous hard-working woman, she’d suffered through surgery and chemo for colon cancer about ten years before she died, and received regular treatments of a harsh maintenance drug during that decade. Then, over the course of a year, lung cancer claimed her. Did I accept her medical prognosis and death? No. I still don’t. She deserved more time; so much more joy. As does Jake. As do so many.

As for me, I’ll end this maudlin note with a quote from Emily Dickinson who once said, “I dwell in possibility.” Here’s to possibilities for us all.

Shadow Patterns of Melt

Author Notes

Kindle Vella Episode 1–Ejecta: During a tranquil early morning hike in Yellowstone, I enjoyed how the frost on the wooden walkways melted in a distinct pattern, with the railing shadows hiding the frost from the sun. Like a mantra, and in cadence with my steps, I found myself murmuring “shadow patterns of melt.” That very night, the characters and story concept knocked on my dreams. Bishr and Nialla have been with me ever since, and I hope you enjoy getting acquainted.
